On Thursday 8th November, Year 4 went on the most magical school trip! Warner Bro’s Studio Tour! We left school early and got to the studio at about 10.30. They were huge and magnificent! We also went into the castle and saw the magnificent and richly decorated rooms including a bed that Queen Anne died in! Our day ended in the maze but thankfully no-one got lost so we could all get back to school on time! Everything looked very realistic and it felt as if we went back in time! During lunch, we were able to watch an incredible display of birds of prey called the Falconer’s Quest, including bald eagles, sea eagles and vultures. After the walls, we went to the Kingmaker exhibition where we saw how many people and how much equipment was needed to get a medieval army ready for a battle. The views were amazing and we could see for miles and miles. On Tuesday 25th June, Year 4 had a trip to Warwick Castle! We had an amazing time and the children’s behaviour was impeccable even though the weather was extremely wet! The day began with a climb up onto the castle walls! It was a spiral staircase and was very old so we had to be careful, especially because of the weather but the children were very brave! From the walls we climbed up to the top of the tallest tower which was almost 200 steps up. Thank you all for your support with Roman day, all of the children (and staff) really enjoyed it! During the day we also took children from each class to help Mrs Beatty and Miss Crane make a whole-school Roman mosaic! At the end of the day, the mosaic was completed and will be displayed around school once it is dry.
Check out the photos from the day! Throughout the day, each year group were busy designing, researching and making their own Roman objects, jewellery, food and even buildings! Everyone had a lot of fun learning more about Ancient Rome.
After the assembly, some staff and children went outside for our photoshoot! We re-enacted a battle between Roman gladiators and then a market scene with people milling around wearing Roman outfits. Miss Crane led an assembly and explained why it is important to study the Romans as they did a lot for Britain and introduced a lot of things to our country such as toilets, plumbing, roads and writing. On Friday 7th June, Shaw Hill had our first Roman Day!! Staff and students came dressed in Roman outfits, including togas and gladiator armour.
